SBY monitors situation in Egypt ahead
of visit

President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is
monitoring the developing situation in Egypt and for the moment, is still
intent on his plan to attend the 21th Organization of Islamic
Cooperation (OIC) Summit, which is scheduled to take place on Feb.5-6 in Cairo.
“We hope that the situation in Cairo is
safe. But if the situation deteriorates further, we will respond to it,”
Yudhoyono said in press conference in Monrovia, Liberia, early Saturday
Indonesia time.
Accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister
Marty Natalegawa and several Cabinet ministers, Yudhoyono said that the
Egyptian authorities had yet to offer information on the real situation and
conditions in the country. No information has been relased on a possible delay
of the high level meeting that is due to be attended by around 50 leaders of
OIC member countries.
If the crisis in the country worsened,
Yudhoyono said the delay of the OIC meeting would be understandable. ”I will
not blame anyone. The most important thing is for the goals of the OIC meeting
to be achieved. However, if something disrupts us in achieving that and leads
to a delay, I will be very understanding about the matter,” he said as quoted
by Antara news agency.
