Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama says
that any civil servant employed by the administration can now apply to become a
district and subdistrict head.
“We will evaluate their performance and ask them to pitch
programs for their residents to see whether they are a good fit for the
position or not,” the deputy governor said on Friday at City Hall.
Ahok said that it would not be difficult for incumbed
district and subdistrict heads to keep their jobs, as he and Governor Joko
“Jokowi” Widodo had provided many examples of their definition of good
leadership. Ahok said that getting out of the office and into the streets was a
must for civil servants, especially for district and subdistrict heads, to
better understand the problems and aspirations of the people. According to the
deputy governor, the decision to hold open interviews for the positions was
done due to the lackluster performance of local leaders during the first 100
days of Jokowi’s administration. Ahok added that the administration would ask
all local leaders to sign an intergrity pact regarding their programs and their
commitment to implementing the programs.
The administrarion has 44 district and 268 subdistricts in
Thousand Islands regency and the five municipalities of Central Jakarta
